Assateague Island

Assateague and Chincoteague Islands are barrier islands off the coast of Maryland and Virginia. These islands are known for their herds of wild ponies that live on the island. The Maryland portion of the island is managed by the National Park Service and the Virginia portion of the island is managed by the Chinoteague Wildlife Refuge and the local Fire department.

To celebrate our second anniversary, Paul and I spent last weekend on the Eastern Shore of Virginia biking around Assateague Island in search of the wild ponies! We did manage to see 6 ponies, 1 of which wandered right up to me and stuck its head in my backpack looking for food. Not too wild…

Here are a few pics!
