Thandeka Safari Lodge

Over Labor Day weekend we decided to escape from the city and head to the bush! I found a good last minute deal at Thandeka Lodge, about 1.5 hours from Pretoria. It is a luxury tented camp, with large tents out in the bush. They were very nice, we got a family tent with two rooms, and Piper got to be a big girl and sleep in a twin bed! The weather was nice and warm and we spent the weekend relaxing and swimming.

 Our tent!

Piper is already at home here, hanging out in her diaper

 Perfect safari bush bath tub!

Morning coffee and tea on our deck

 Our walk to the lodge

 Piper doing her birding!

We stayed on a Saturday and Sunday nights, which was great. The Lodge cleared out on Sunday morning and we had it to ourselves. This meant that we could take Piper on a couple mini game drives, without worrying about bothering the other passengers and not going near any predators. She loved it!

Sable Antelope

 Waterbuck

 Yellow-billed Hornbill

 Red-headed Weaver

 Kudu

After an hour or so Piper gets a bit bored with the game drive

These lions were in a separate enclosure, but they were hanging out near the fence so we got to see them

Purple Heron

We were lucky enough to be there during the lunar eclipse and blood moon! We woke up at 3 am to see it! I didn't have a tripod, but I managed to get a couple shots.

It was a great weekend away for the Plevasides Family!
