Mothers Day Game Drive in Rietvlei Nature Reserve

I  had a lovely first Mother's Day here in South Africa with my little lady and Paul. We had a leisurely morning of pancakes, passion fruit and mimosas and then took a drive out to Rietvlei a nearby game reserve. The reserve is home to cheetahs, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, zebra and a variety of antelope.

Within the first 5 minutes of our drive we found the rhinos very close to the road! And we continued to see a variety of wildlife, although none of the cats.

There were a number of secured areas with bird blinds and picnic area where you could get out of your car and safely walk around. We found horses (not a safari animal, but a favorite of mine nonetheless) and lots of amazing birds.

It was a great first Mother's Day for me! What a treat to be the mom of this little girl and to get to go see these amazing animals so near to where we live. And with that I leave you with a couple more of the standard safari shots (the Zebra's favorite pose!).
